1.  How do I know which is the most appropriate Massive Math
edition to order for my child? Addition, subtraction, etc.?
Home Edition Questions & Answers
School Edition Questions & Answers
There is no single best way to use Massive Math. However, we do
suggest that you devise a simple implementation plan that answers the
following questions:

-Who will work on a given poster and for how long?
-Will students work on a poster in groups, pairs, or as individuals?
-Will a poster be completed left to right/top to bottom or randomly?
-How will the answers be checked?
In general, addition and subtraction facts are taught in first and second
grade. Multiplication is usually taught in third grade. Division facts are
often required in fourth grade. Simplifying fractions is usually reserved for
fifth grade. These are just guidelines, though. It depends on the state and
school district. If you’re not sure, ask your child’s teacher which Massive
Math would be appropriate.

Many students enjoy the challenge of working on math material that is
beyond their grade level, though. Ask your child which edition of Massive
Math sounds most appealing.

And of course, many students never mastered their facts from previous
grade levels. Massive Math, in addition to being a great challenge, also
works superbly as a review. If you’re still in doubt, start with Massive Math
Addition.
2.  What kinds of math problems are on a Massive Math challenge?
The addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division challenges have just
the basic facts—the kind of problems found on most editions of math fact
flashcards. Basic fact problems involving 11’s and 12’s are not included.

The simplifying fractions challenge is based on the basic math facts
related to division. The numerator and denominator of an answer will
never be greater than 10, and the answer will always be a proper fraction.
3.  How many problems are on a Massive Math challenge?
The addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division versions have 4,151
problems. We suggest that you not tell your students exactly how many.
Most kids love calculating the exact number themselves—you’ll see.

The simplifying fractions version has 2,371 problems. Of course,
simplifying a fraction requires two mental division problems, so in a sense
there are 4,742 problems.
4. Is a paper Massive Math poster printed on glossy paper?
No! It’s printed on a high-quality 24 lb. writeable paper. Pencil works great.
5.  How do I hang a Massive Math poster on a wall?
Thumbtacks around the edges work just fine, but use plenty of them—
these posters are enormous!
Shipping & Ordering

1.  What do I receive with my order?
For each home edition purchased, you’ll receive a 3 by 6 foot writeable
poster and a gold medal. These will be shipped, in most cases, inside a
sturdy shipping tube. The posters will never be folded, though minor
creasing and dinking of the edges sometimes occurs during handling.
2.  How long will it take to receive my order?
Please allow up to 3 weeks for delivery.
3.  If I order 3 different posters will I receive 3 different medals?
You’ll receive 3 medals, but they will be the same. In the distant future we
hope to offer a distinct medal for each type of poster.

Implementation in the school

1.  What’s the best way to implement Massive Math?
This is a very real phenomenon and should be taken seriously (we’re not
kidding). This condition arises in a school when some classrooms have
Massive Math posters and others don’t. If at all possible, order enough
copies of Massive Math to insure that all capable students on your grade
level or campus get their fill.

The best way to avoid Massive Math Envy is to involve your school in a
Massive Math 100,000 Challenge. This challenge is fun and involves
virtually every student and classroom in the school.   (see below for more
details)
2. What is Massive Math Envy and how do we avoid it?
One of the great things about Massive Math is that when it’s completed it
becomes a concrete testament to your students’ ability to work as a team
to accomplish a monumental task. Students love to see their completed
posters displayed on a wall (the classroom wall is good; the hallway wall
is better; the principal’s office wall is just plain awesome)!

So for permanent display purposes, paper is better.

But if you just want to use Massive Math as a fun way for your students to
practice their math facts, laminated is a good choice. Laminated copies
can be used and reused multiple times. And yes, they can be passed
from classroom to classroom.  Just remember: laminated copies do not
last forever, and the more you pass them around the more damaged and
worn they become.

For practice purposes, laminated may be a better option.

Warning: if you order a paper copy and try to laminate it on your school’s
laminating machine, you will likely destroy it in the process. Please take
us seriously on this point.
3. Paper, laminate, or both?
Mission Impossible?
*Before you read the next section, we’d just like to say we used every ounce of self-control not
to capitalize every letter of every word in every sentence. We tried not to end every sentence
with an exclamation point. Please forgive us for any transgressions as you read below. We’re
just absolutely excited about the concept of The Massive Math 100,000 Challenge!!!
1. What is The Massive Math 100,000 Challenge?
As a school, solve 100,000 math facts in 10 days!
This mission, should you decide to accept it, is absolutely awesome!

Imagine virtually every student in your school—no matter the grade level—
working together to accomplish the seemingly impossible.

After the principal challenges the students at a morning assembly, 25
Massive Math posters are doled out (according to a simple plan) to the
classrooms—some taking 1, others taking 2 or more.

After each classroom eagerly completes its part of the mission, the
posters are hung on the cafeteria wall in a giant 5 by 5 array! An array of
Massive Math that is 15 feet tall and 30 feet wide!

That’s 450 square feet of math for all to behold! And the neatest thing
about this school-wide challenge is that the results are concrete! It’s
tangible; it’s visual; it’s just flat-out stunning!

All it takes is five 6-packs (of your choosing) to have enough posters to
implement the challenge. And the price for implementing the coolest
mathematical challenge of all time? Just $325. Yep, that’s it. A whole-
school challenge for $325. We think that’s an amazing price, too.

Talk to your principal today! This is just too cool to pass up!
